Meet Dr. Mike Rakes

Helping individuals and institutions use their personal power to build better futures – one leader and organization at a time.

Mike is a Spirit-led leader and turnaround architect known for blending theological depth with bold executive leadership. With terminal degrees in both theology and business, he operates at the intersection of spiritual discernment and organizational transformation. Mike has raised over $100 million in philanthropic investment, led institutional renewals, and coached leaders to navigate complexity with clarity and conviction.

In 2015, Mike published his first book, Slings and Stones, followed by Surrendered and Unafraid: The Flourishing of Faith During Seasons of Suffering in 2021. His latest book, The Black Start Leader – Reigniting Power and Purpose When Everything Goes Dark, was released in 2025. Informed by decades of driving renewal, the book equips leaders to see their power as fuel that energizes change and innovation. Darla recently completed her doctoral degree in ministry, and released her first book, The Real You: Discover the Person God Made You To Be. All books are available on Amazon.

His latest book, The Black Start Leader, provides a groundbreaking framework to help leaders restore momentum after seasons of ineffectiveness or burnout. He uses contemporary business examples, biblical characters and energy metaphors to reignite vision and spark non-profits and businesses back to life. His voice is prophetic, his leadership catalytic, and his message clear: there is an internal power source available for leaders to make their lives count and deliver results in the workplace.
